Course DescriptionFrom social media posts to open government materials, texts are pervasive in current human society. These texts, viewed as unstructured data, provide unprecedented insights into the development status and existing problems in many science, social, and business-related areas. This course offers an introduction of computational text analysis to store, process and utilize text as data. Students will learn fundamental concepts around discovering and representing textual data, building and training computational models from textual data, and applying and measuring the models in resolving real world problems. Students will engage in discussions on social and ethical issues associated with using text as data.
